Hello Everyone! I am excited to be sharing with you my final challenge project for the Altenew Educator Certification Program Level One.
- select ANY 3 components from the classes in Level 1
- create birthday/graduation (your choice) and masculine/teenager (your choice) card/project
I added a personal challenge of creating coordinating feminine and masculine cards.
The three components common to both of my cards are:
- Celebration: Stencil Techniques – I created a stencil with the halftone cover die and ink blended limestone ink on the backgrounds.
- Easy Die-Cutting – The “t” and “y” on the masculine card and the floral cluster on the feminine card are both die-cut.
- Let It Shine – I added shine to both of the cards by clear heat embossing the sentiments.
In addition, I included geometric shapes which was shared in For the Guys and layering which was discussed in All About Layering 1 & 2.
These are both A2 – 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ cards on black card bases. The background panels are Neenah 110# Solar White and are 4″ x 5-1/2″. First, I used the diamond strip from the pattern play set to create an ombre’ repeat pattern on the left portion of each of the backgrounds. Second, I created a stencil with the halftone cover die and ink blended the right portion of the backgrounds.
I proceeded by die-cutting the “t” and the “y” from the bold alphabet die set in the lower left portion of the background for the masculine card. To add dimension, I die-cut 4 more of each letter (black cardstock) and adhered them together. I made sure the letters die-cut from the background panel were positioned on the top layer. You will now want to set the letters aside to dry. With the misti stamping tool I stamped the thank you sentiment in sapphire above the “y”. I proceeded to stamp the sentiment again using versamark so it could be clear heat embossed. Once the heat embossing was complete, I adhered the background to the cardbase and then adhered the letters to the cardbase as well. At this time I needed to complete my feminine card. For the die-cut element I selected the build-a-flower-rose. First, I stamped the first four layers of the rose using the cherry blossom ink collection and the last two layers using the two darkest colors from the rock collection. Second, I stamped the leaves using the tropical forest ink collection. Finally, I stamped the small cluster of flowers using industrial diamond. I die-cut the flowers and the leaves and then placed them on the background in the same general area as the “t” and the “y” in the masculine card. I used foam tape to adhere the rose and a wet glue to adhere the remaining floral elements. (Tip: Do not adhere the floral cluster to the background until after the sentiment has been added.) To add visual interest and dimension, bend up the edges of the leaves and small floral clusters. This gives them a more life like feel.
The sentiment is from the birthday builder stamp set and is stamped using sapphire ink and then clear heat embossed. I placed the sentiment in the same general area as it is on the masculine card. From here, I adhered the background to the cardbase and the floral cluster to the background.
Pictured above is a close-up of both my masculine and feminine cards showing the shine of the heat embossed sentiments. The shine is easier to see in real life. I used a thin sentiment for the masculine card so it would have less shine and a thicker sentiment for the feminine card so it would have more shine.
Thank you for the opportunity to participate in Level One of the Altenew Educator Certification Program. Level One classes were a refresher for me, but they were a lot of fun. Most of all I enjoyed the final assignment. I am looking forward to Level Two.

Your techniques and skills really come through in this one. I am especially loving how you used the stencil (check the gradient!!) and dies ( alphabet die position is amazing) ! VERY swoon-worthy! I am SO pleased that you are making great progress with the AECP! This post truly is exemplary!! Way to go!
