Welcome to Day 3 of the Catherine Pooler Designs Kind of Batty Release Blog Hop. You should have arrived here from the amazing Kelly Martin. On Day 1 of the blog hop I focused on the Kind of Wonderful portion of the release. Today the focus is on the Going Batty portion of the release.
Are there any Halloween lovers out there? I love the Fall/Autumn Season, but I don’t get all excited about Halloween. I do however love mums and pumpkins. That is about as Halloween as I get. That being said, these items were a blast to create with. So, lets move on to my cards, which are all A2 top folding with Midnight bases.
Happy Halloween
The haunted house in the Spooky Hollow Stamp Set and the Who’s There? Cover Plate inspired me to create this card. I wanted spooky eyes to be peeking from one of the windows of the haunted house. Even though there are a lot of elements to this card, it is not difficult.
Start by stamping the haunted house with Copic friendly ink onto white cardstock and color. Then die-cut the colored haunted house and another one with white cardstock. Using the Who’s There? Cover Plate, situate on the haunted house in a way that a set of the eyes will cut out at the top large window. Color the middle portion of the white haunted house die-cut with Y08 Copic marker. Then adhere the two haunted houses together with foam tape.
I was figuring out the design as I created the card. This is a good time to clear heat emboss the Going Batty Background Stamp onto a 3-3/4 x 5 inch panel of Midnight cardstock. Take the haunted house and set it on the background panel. This is when more ideas flowed.
Stamp and die-cut the trees, witch and moon. Then die-cut a few bats using black glitter cardstock. Stamp and trim the sentiment. Now is a good time to assemble your card. Add dimensional foam where you see fit. I added it to the haunted house, trees, background panel and sentiment. All other items are adhered with liquid adhesive.
I am excited to see what everyone creates with the Spooky Hollow Stamp Set and coordinating dies. This set is packed with so many options. I am not typically a scene building cardmaker. This card was a joy to create! Maybe I need to try creating scene cards more often.
COLOR REFERENCE
- Haunted House: Copic – N3, V28, BV08, Y08
- Witch: Black Jack
- Trees: Bottom tree is Twilight and top tree is Sand Castle with Twilight stamped on top of it.
- Moon: Tiara
- Sentiment: Grape Crush with Twilight edge.
Smell My Feet
This card was inspired by the fun boots in the Everything but the Broom Stamp Set. Start by stamping the boots with Copic friendly ink onto white cardstock. Copic color the boots and then die-cut. You can also die-cut and then color, whatever makes you happy. Trim a 3-3/4 x 5 inch white cardstock panel. Ink blend a circular area towards the center of the panel.
This is when I figured out I wanted to add more detail to my card. Trim a strip of the thick striped patterned paper from Black Tie Gala. Make sure it is at least 5 inches tall. Then trim a tiny strip of Midnight cardstock, again at least 5 inches tall.
Stamp the sentiment and assemble the card. The finished panel is 3-3/4 x 5 inches. The boots are adhered with foam adhesive. The other elements are adhered with tape runner. The thin strip is the exception, which is adhered with liquid adhesive. If you have any pieces that overhang, just trim off. For example if the patterned paper or thin midnight strip was more than 5 inches tall, you will want to trim it to be flush with the white portion of the panel.
COLOR REFERENCE
- Boots: Copic – N3, N5, V28, BV08
- Sentiment: Midnight
- Background Ink Blending: Twilight, Pixie Dust
Trick or Treat
This card was inspired by the sentiment in the Everything but the Broom Stamp Set. I thought it would be fun to stamp it in ombre. Trim a 4 x 5-1/4 inch white card panel. Stamp the witch’s hat in Copic friendly ink and color (N3, V28, BV08, YR68). Then use a Micron pen to outline the hat. Stamp the sentiment including the border both above and below the sentiment (Orange Twist, Grape Crush). Adhere the card panel to the card base with tape runner.
Happy Halloween
Last, a super quick bonus card that was inspired by the Spider Web Background Stamp. Trim two 3-3/4 x 5 inch white card panels. Stamp the Spider web background using Twilight ink onto one of them and then apply Grape Crush ink to the edges of the other one. Stamp the spider and 31 from the Everything but the Broom Stamp Set in Black Jack, Orange Twist and Grape Crush inks. Stamp the sentiment on a piece of white cardstock using Orange Twist ink. Apply Grape Crush ink to the edges of the sentiment panel. Adhere the panels with a tape runner (you will need to trim the spiderweb panel a little so you can see the purple border) and then adhere the sentiment with foam tape.
