Hello Friends! Have you ever used your die-cuts to create stencils? Well, today I will show you a card I created using this technique. The stamp and die-set that I used are from the Catherine Pooler Designs, Tropical Treasures release.
Sending Smiles
I would like to begin by apologizing to you for not having step-by-step photos. I sent my card into Catherine Pooler prior to determining I was going to do a detailed blog post.
This is one of my most liked cards that I created for the release. It is approximately 4-1/8 inches x 9-1/2 inches and the first that I have created in this size. Please note: this card is not difficult to create, but I did spend a significant amount of time on it.
Steps:
- Trim a piece of white cardstock to 8-1/4 inches x 9-1/2 inches and score the short side at 4-1/8 inches.
- Trim a piece of white cardstock to 4-1/8 inches x 9-1/2 inches. This will turn into your stencil. Using the pineapple die from the Pineapple and Bits Dies, die-cut 5 pineapples in a straight row, flip-flopping them. The negative die-cut will be your stencil.
- Trim another piece of white cardstock to 4-1/8 inches x 9-1/2 inches. This piece will be used for your pineapple design. Use this piece starting at step 4.
- Ink blend pineapples using the stencil created in step 2. I used lime rickey for the tops and shea butter and sauna for the bottoms. Let the ink dry for a couple of minutes and then proceed to step 5. (Disclosure: I used generic blending brushes, but reference the life changing brushes in the supply list because that is what Catherine Pooler carries. Sorry, I do not have these, but several team members do and love them.)
- Stamp and clear heat emboss the pineapples from the Pineapples and Smiles Stamp Set. Tip: It is helpful to use a stamp positioning tool for this step. Stamp pineapple bottoms using rose petals and then clear heat emboss. Stamp pineapple tops using lime rickey and also green tea along the outside edge, then clear heat emboss.
- White heat emboss sentiment from the Pineapples and Smiles Stamp Set on midnight cardstock. Trim around the edge of the sentiment.
- Trim a piece of midnight cardstock for your mat layer and then trim your stamped panel accordingly.
- Assemble your card. The two cardstock panels are adhered with a tape runner and the sentiment is adhered with foam tape.
It was nice sharing this card with all of you. I hope you have some time to create this weekend. =) Tracie
